Clinic makeover…for the Beaver Den!

I wanted to upgrade the clinic office space in my husband’s physical therapy practice that will be used for pelvic floor therapy! Seeking help for pelvic floor therapy can be intimate, and we wanted a cozy, comfortable, and beautiful space! I teamed up with my friend Madison; she was in charge of designing this space, and I was in charge of ordering everything and bringing it to life! Madison is another awesome Instagram DIYer! This dull medical office room needed a makeover. We aimed to keep it professional but inviting for the women coming here. Don’t you love this wallpaper? Does it remind you of anything?

About the blue…

Madison came in with a blue + wallpaper vision, and we took two days to bring it to life! The paint is from the designer collection from Home Depot, and the color is Adirondack Blue. It’s calming, gorgeous & perfectly ties the wallpaper in. I love the design she came up with and love how it turned out! The railing on the wall was preexisting, so we added some cove molding underneath for a more polished look. As for the cabinets, we added quarter round to the bottom and the room’s floor. I sanded the cabinets with 150 grit, then 220 grit, and used a tack cloth to remove all the dust before painting. I did one coat of the marquee satin, then sanded lightly with 220 grit and did one more coat. The more coats you do, the more durable, but always sand in between to get that glass finish look. I used a mohair roller for painting the cabinets, which gives an excellent finish, some people use foam rollers, but my grandfather told me these were better, and he knows his stuff.

The wallpaper!

This is THE most perfect wallpaper for this room. It is so fun, yet modern and interesting too. It is a beautiful abstract print from Anthropologie that is the focal design of the space while complimenting the blue. The energy this room brings is so unique! The blue paint is grounding and makes you feel welcome and relaxed. The wallpaper is visually stimulating when you may need to focus on something other than why you’re there! iykyk.

The contact paper countertop

We were a team divided on what to do with the counters. One wanted to keep the green inherited counters, and one wanted to revamp them, lighten them up, and use contact paper. I’ll let you guess who won. Hint: it was me. We used this marble contact paper from Amazon! It transforms the surface without breaking the bank. I highly suggest this being a two-person job. It can be very tricky to apply. If you have a high-traffic surface like a kitchen counter or bathroom counter, I do think you could look for thicker contact paper for increased durability. The one we used should be fine for an office setting like this. We also caulked around the sink and in the seams to give a clean finish. One tip would be to remove the sink before laying the contact paper for a seamless look.

The finishing touches

We added a shelf that was made of natural, unstained wood. The brackets are from Ikea. The warmth of bare wood was an excellent earthy balance for the room. The gold cabinet pulls are so pretty! The tiny scallop detail on them is beautiful on cabinets or dressers! A large mirror over the sink, a low profile faux wood lamp, some jars, a basket, and a soap pump finish up this sink side. Sorry, I can’t link the anatomical pelvic model, but it sure is an essential decor addition.

Loved these laid-back, somewhat masculine chairs. The charcoal balances the black-tiered lamp shelves and mirror above the ledge on the opposite wall. The salt lamp doubles as an essential oil diffuser! Love that! The rug is checkered and neutral, but just enough pattern to make the floor pop in a good way! Madison really pulled patterns together in here that all work seamlessly!

This was a really great project to do. It is a professional space designed to welcome women into the clinic but with a fun and exciting design. I had the best time working with Madison!
