Hunter’s Big (Cow)Boy Room
I Can’t Believe It’s Time For This…
I told y’all that this was the year that I got my life together, AND I MEANT IT! We are officially trying to start some projects around here, and I just finished one of my favorites that I’ve ever done… HUNTER’S BIG COWBOY ROOM!
I’ll Miss His Nursery
A few weeks ago, I shared his nursery revamp with y’all. If you want to see the before, go visit this blog post! I loved his nursery so much, and I still love this room. Even if it does mean that my tiny baby boy isn’t exactly tiny anymore. I would really like to point out that I didn’t have to change any paint or fixtures when I redid this room, too. The intent of his nursery was that it would be something that could grow with him. And I really feel like we accomplished that.
When we designed the nursery, I knew I wanted the design to grow with him. I chose Sherwin-Williams Pure White as the base paint + Sherwin-Williams Gracious Greige as the accent color, because they would make the room feel warm and inviting. They are the perfect neutral combo. The goal was to avoid repainting the entire room, even if we changed the design. And I’m happy to report that I did not have to paint ANYTHING when I did this project!!!
Basically, Hunter has been sleeping on a twin mattress on the floor since we transitioned him out of the crib. (Don’t come for me, we did try a toddler bed and it just didn’t cut it!) But I’ve noticed, since Chris has been gone, he’s having a really hard time staying in his bed at night. Not sure why. But with this development, I decided that I would go with a queen bed. This just seemed like it would be more comfortable for him, and for me when I snuggle him at bedtime. I want this room to feel like a safe haven for him.
Article Furniture
When I was choosing the furniture for this room, I decided on a matching bedroom suite, because I just thought it would be easier to tie in all of the elements. The furniture pieces were the tone setters for the rest of the space. Article’s quality is unmatched, and for his room I wanted cohesive pieces. I went with the Lenia Collection in the walnut finish (this collection also comes in other finishes, including white). I purchased the queen bed, nightstand and the dresser. This is the vibe I was going for:
I was so blown away by the packaging and quality! When I opened each box I had the recurring thought that there is no way any of these pieces could have arrived damaged, because of how well it was packaged. Which removes so much stress when you’re buying large pieces of furniture, because nobody wants to spend time and energy trying to get replacements when an item is shipped and arrives damaged! I think we can all agree on that.
Another great aspect of this furniture is that it was SO easy to put together. It didn’t come in a million tiny pieces, which was wonderful, since I was going to be putting this space together on my own! (One of the many downfalls of deployment, sadly.) The entire experience with Article was 10/10. I couldn’t recommend more!
Cowboy Vibes
After I received the furniture, I decided we would go with a fun cowboy/rodeo theme! When we found out that Hunter was a boy, and we were deciding on names, Chris really wanted to name him after one of his favorite cowboys when he was a kid. So, that’s what we did. Coupled with Hunter’s love of Woody and Toy Story, I thought the cowboy theme would be perfect for him (and hopefully make him want to sleep in his room going forward). I’ve mentioned previously that figuring out a vibe for a space is difficult for me, so it did take me a couple of weeks to gather all of the elements to make this a functional room for him, that would also appeal to his boyhood.
One-Stop-Shop
The great thing about Article that you can get bedding too! I got the Leesa Studio queen mattress for his bed, and let me tell you, it is SO comfortable!!! His duvet and sham set also came from Article. I got his bedding in charcoal, but it comes in other colors, as well! Again, it’s basically a one-stop-shop for all of your comfort essentials! I purchased in this rodeo pillow, and howdy pillow, along with this green pillow, just to add more comfort and on-theme elements.
Other Elements To Bring It All Together
I did switch out the previous rug for this new rug, to tie in some color and texture. It’s an 8×10, and the color is Ember + Blue.
I obviously kept his letter board, because we love to put messages on it periodically! It’s always a favorite when I share his room! We also kept the map that has been in his room since we did his nursery, because it just looks really great in this space. Other elements from his nursery that remained are the chair, the olive tree, and the snake plant. All of these items kept with the vibe of the space, and added some color as well as comfort for him.
This cowboy flag is great as a tapestry, to tie in the theme, and add some more dimension to the room. I also really loved this print from Etsy, because Hunter really loves Woody + Bullseye! I grabbed the frame for the Woody print from Hobby Lobby, because I didn’t want to just hang the print on the wall on its own.
To hang above his bed, I picked these chaps from a local shop. I did check, and you can visit the brand’s website if you wanted to order these online.Ya know, if you don’t have a local shop to purchase them from. I also hung these cowboy hats and this pennant over his bed with the chaps.
Finishing Touches
When I was looking for items for his nightstand, I knew I wanted a nightlight, so I grabbed this Buzz Lightyear one (because you can’t have Woody without Buzz, obvi)! I didn’t want anything that would be super stimulating, but would still create enough light for him to be comfortable in his room. I also got this cowboy print from Etsy, because I just thought it was a sweet little element to add. This skull was also a unique piece to add to the theme, I thought.
I wanted to add a few more finishing touches to his dresser, so I got these cute little cowboy boots, this red truck (because what little boy doesn’t love a red truck???), this cactus in a planter, and this spur. The idea was to add simple items that would make his room feel intentional!
My Baby Isn’t A Baby Anymore
I am so excited for Hunter to grow in this room! I didn’t think I could love his room more than when it was a nursery, but I was wrong! This room just feels so cozy and like it was made just for him! (Because it was.) And the best part is, HE LOVES IT! I hope this means that he will want to stay in his room and sleep, but I will never mind spending time in here with him! 🙂
