Moody Office Moment: Pt. 2

|

Here we are again, as promised, talking about my dreamy office space. I seriously can’t explain how much I love this space and how proud I am of it. Today, we’re going to talk about the actual design of the space (paint colors, decor, hardware, you know… all the fun things).

Check out Pt. 1 of the Office Makeover!

If you want to see the first phase of transforming this space, you can check out Pt. 1 here!

Office Vibes

I knew when I was designing this room, that I wanted it to be somewhat moody. The goal was to create a cozy and homey space, because I would be in it a lot! I actually picked 3 different samples and had y’all vote on which was your favorite. Lucky for me, y’all loved the same one I did. We ended up choosing the Behr Black Evergreen, which is EVERYTHING!!! I love this color so much.

PREP!!!

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again… PREP is key. You cannot properly do a project without properly prepping for said project. I enlisted my brother to help me with this part, because he is a perfectionist and I am not. Plus, I was almost 9 mos. pregnant, so spray painting was a no for me. We patched and sanded the walls so the paint would go on seamlessly. Then, we (and be “we” I mean “he”) primed the walls with Bull’s Eye 1-2-3 Primer and the Graco Homeowners Sprayer TC Pro. I also made sure to lightly sand the cabinets with 220 grit sandpaper between coats for the smoother finish.

Paint

Once everything was primed and dried, we loaded the sprayer with the Behr Black Evergreen and my brother went to spraying! I wanted everything to be the same color, because I am just OBSESSED with it! I used Mohair rollers on the desk and cabinets, so that the paint would be more even in the details. When the paint was dry, we went over everything with Behr Marquee Interior Satin Enamel for the finish. To add a little pizzaz, if you will!

Bringing the Office Together

When all the priming, painting, and finishing was over it was time to really put the space together! I started out by grabbing some of Hunter’s chalk, my laser level, and a regular level. I marked off the places with the chalk where the shelves between the built-ins would go.

Shelves and Brackets

When you’re hanging shelves, it’s important to locate your studs and mark them. The studs will reinforce the shelves so they can hold more wait. NO ONE wants to hear the sound of their shelves crashing to the floor, amirite?? I recruited some help for hanging the shelves, because there was no way I’d accomplish this on my own! The brackets we used are from Ultra Shelf, the shelves were locally milled to fit the space, and they’re still hanging! So 10/10 recommend. 🙂

When the shelves were hung, I installed these beautiful double brackets! I am SO happy with how these turned out. I really feel like they just completed the shelves so perfectly and tied in the hardware I was about to install! One thing that really helped with the hardware installation was the hardware jig that I used and HIGHLY RECOMMEND! It seriously made things so much easier!

Isn’t it dreamy? I’m so proud of this office and it makes all the work not feel like work with all these pretty things around!! I wanted a somewhat dramatic feel to the space. Almost romantic. I knew the brass + glass details of this chandelier would accomplish this goal. It also tied in all of the brass hardware I chose for the shelves and built-ins perfectly.

Styling the shelves was easily my favorite part, because it marked the completion of this project! One of my must-haves for any room in my home is a candle. I chose this candle warmer, because it matched the rest of the decor in the room, and it works so well!!! As soon as you turn it on, you instantly smell the candle. I also chose some our favorite books and plates to fill in spaces on the shelves.

One of the best ways to make a space cozy is adding mixed textures. You can choose picture frames, bowls, vases, and anything else that makes you happy when you look at it. And of course, we cannot forget a rug!

Organization is key in an office. Some of the items I added in the drawers + cabinets included desk organizers, stackable file boxes, a letter tray, drawer organizers, and storage bins!

You can make any room in your home beautiful. Choose items that make you happy. This office makes me so happy to create new things to make my home a haven for my family. Start small. I promise it’s worth it!!!
