Potty Training Hacks

One of the spectacular (and I’m using this term loosely) things about having kids that are close in age is that right after you finish one chore (in this case potty training), it’s time to start over again with the next kid. I mentioned recently that Gracie’s pediatrician said that she was showing signs that she was ready to potty train. And while I don’t know exactly what all of the signs are, I know I am not ready to potty train again yet. Haha. So I thought I’d get organized before I started. And of course, you know I’m going to share my finds with y’all.

First of all, no potty training process is complete without a mini potty for the bathroom, or a potty seat to place on your regular toilet seat. I personally think this potty seat for the toilet that comes with a step ladder is genius! It eliminates the need to re-train them to use the big toilet once they’ve mastered the mini toilet. And you don’t have to clean the mini one if you go this route. But both options are great!

Another great idea to consider for potty training is a travel potty with liners. You can simply place it in the back of your car for on-the-go emergencies. And do not forget wipes! Flushable wipes are great for inside your home. And you can use regular wipes in the car and just throw them in the disposable liner when they’re done. You could also grab this wet bag for pull ups if you use them, so that you can place the pull up in the wet bag and dispose of it when you get home.

A great travel potty training hack item are these disposable toilet seat covers when you’re in public and don’t have the time to cover the toilet seat with toilet paper! Whoever invented these is a genius and deserves an award!

I also highly recommend a stroller and carseat cover, so that your stroller or car seat doesn’t get ruined with accidents!

A great alternative to pull ups are the potty training underwear. They are absorbent, in case there are minor accidents, and they help your little ones get used to real underwear.

It’s inevitable that accidents are going to happen during potty training, especially when your kids are sleeping. This washable mattress pad is fantastic for protecting your mattresses while you’re potty training your kids. It saves you the cost of replacing the mattress. You can just throw it in the washing machine and reuse it under their sheets.

This potty time button sound book is an awesome way to make potty training fun for them. They can play the sounds, and the sounds help them go potty more easily.

For rewards during potty training, you can use a potty training chart. Once they’ve filled the chart you can take them for ice cream or do something fun that will make the experience better for everyone involved! I’ve also heard of people using little treats like skittles or M&M’s every time their child goes potty, to help celebrate the small victories! This timer is also a really fun way to help keep your kids on-task while they’re learning how to do big things!

I hope some of these ideas are helpful. Parenting can be tough, so it’s always good to share our experiences to lighten the load for each other where we can. 🙂 Feel free to check out my Amazon store front to grab anything you might need for this journey!
