How to do a Nursery/Guest bedroom combo

This was our guest room before our daughter was born. It was THE dumping ground where all the junk got tossed. We only have two bedrooms, so the minute we found out I was pregnant with a girl, I was racking my brain on how to keep the guest bedroom option but also give her a beautiful nursery. I mean, Hunter’s room is pretty awesome so, naturally, Gracie’s room needed to be awesome too. We have COME A LONG WAY from where we started and I am still not completely finished with this room but with a little paint, crown moulding ( which by the way was almost the death of me), and the perfect color, I have to say I love it so far.

When I first started thinking about how I was going to do this “combo” in such a small room, I started looking for space saving beds. Trundle beds, day beds, twin beds, couch beds, you name it; however, I also wanted something that wouldn’t look completely out of place. I came across this bed from Ikea and I HAD TO HAVE IT! The ability to have a KING bed in such a small room for guests was a huge bonus because, let’s be honest, as a grown adult no one loves sleeping in a twin bed. This bed is the holy grail: it’s white, has storage, it’s affordable, and it’s easy to maneuver. The challenging part was finding mattresses because I have slept on an Ikea mattress before and that’s a no for me =). I needed mattresses that were free of chemicals and toxins because, at the end of the day, when my children grow up one of them will inherit this bed and breathing in chemicals is not okay with me. I also needed the mattresses to be COMFORTABLE; and lastly, not too thick so I could stack them on top of each other when the “King pullout” wasn’t being used.

After searching high and low, I found Brentwood Home Juniper Kids Mattresses. It met EVERY SINGLE ONE of my requirements, and I will say, my research paid off because my daughter has been going through a sleep regression and I sleep on this bed, ALOT. It’s a memory foam mattress, which are usually hot, but this one has a cooling gel memory foam layer and I sleep so comfortably. They use healthy materials, like organic cotton, and their products are free of any chemical flame retardants, heavy metals, or phthalates. The icing on the top was the low profile. They fit perfectly in my daybed, so if you go purchase this awesome bed, you need these amazing mattresses too. They are really affordable and now I have my eye on their play couches as well!!!

This room is really coming together but I am not done yet! This is only Phase 1 of the Nursery so stick around to see what it looks like when it’s done!

I used a king fitted sheet over both mattresses, added some pillows to create the daybed look.

I would like to thank Brentwood Homes for sponsoring this post.
