The Perfect Cognac Couch

|

I spend a lot of time in my living room hanging out with my family. When I was putting the living room together, I knew it needed to be cozy AND functional for life with kids and dogs. I wanted minimal pieces of furniture that my toddlers could climb on. I also wanted to display pictures, without putting them within reach of little hands. So, here is my current living room situation. 🙂

Rug + Couch

This is my current rug. Love it so much! The awesome thing about our couch choice, is that it goes well with almost anything. So I’m able to switch out rugs, other pieces of furniture, and add more textures, because it looks so great no matter what!

This was the previous rug that we had in the space!

Couch Specs

I genuinely love this custom couch from Bassett! The quality of their products is second to none, I promise! We purchased it in 2019, and it’s held up so well under the pressure of every day life. We chose the Ellery large L-shaped sectional, because it creates so much seating space in the living room without having to add a ton of additional bulky furniture.

The couch is made with Veneto leather, which is more durable. I love that for us, because we have dogs and kids. So it essentially absorbs any normal “wear and tear”, and just gives it more of a “worn” or timeless look. Basically, it just gets better with age. Ya feel me? It’s like a fine wine. Any spills, mud, dog hair… it just comes right off. We chose color Cognac because I just feel like this color adds so much warmth to the space! This couch is 100% husband approved!!!

Picture Shelf

I built the floating shelf above my couch. I’ll leave the tutorial here, if anyone needs to build a custom shelf for their living room. 🙂 I wanted to make sure I had enough space for all of the framed photos that I wanted on display, so building the shelf seemed like the best option. Lol.

Added Details

I did add in a side table and coffee table, because I mainly wanted somewhere to put my coffee while I’m chasing my toddlers around. So to add some texture I put out some plants in vases, because you know how I feel about having plants. The actual items I bought are from a few years ago, and no longer available, but I added these great options to accomplish the same look!

I really loved putting together the living room for my family to spend time together. I hope this inspires you to do the same, because I promise you, it’s worth it!
